Feature-packed zombie game

There are many zombie games available nowadays. However, the majority of them are shooters with game concepts similar to one another. It can be hard to look for a zombie game with a different approach. 7 Days to Die is yet another game that involves a horde of the undead. But this is not your usual zombie shooter. It is an open world, multiplayer survival sandbox game that combines first-person shooter, survival horror, tower defense, strategy, and role-playing into one action-packed game.

A mix of various game genre

7 Days to Die is a game that you can describe as a cross between DayZ and Minecraft. It combines the harsh pseudo-reality of the former to the voxel-based destruction and exploration of the former. At the core, it is an open-world sandbox game sprinkled with horror and survival elements.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world littered with swarms of zombies. You are the only person alive. The premise of the game is that every seven days, hordes of zombies will descend upon you, and you need to fend for yourself.

7 Days to Die has a huge environment offering you the freedom to play in any way you want. And freedom is what you’ll have. There is a lot you can do in the game. You can craft and repair weapons, clothes, and other stuff that can help you survive. In fact, the game has more than 500 recipes, which you can learn more about by finding schematics.

You can also build a structure from the ground up. However, to do so, you need to take over a ruin from the undead. The world in the game is very destructible and moldable, allowing players to build forts that include traps, electric power, gadgets, and other defensive structures.

There still various activities you can do in the game. You can complete quests to gain rewards, or you can play hardcore survival mechanics to see how well you can do in a zombie apocalypse. The survival mechanics come with nearly 50 ailments, including hunger, infections, broken bones, heat exhaustion, and more.

7 Days to Die comes with two playable maps. The Navezgane, which is a massive square map comprised of five biomes, and the randomly generated map. The latter randomly spawn cities and biomes that will appeal to players who are looking for a challenge. The former, however, offers fun elements like school—complete with charging zombies—and a strip club.

Mixed bag graphics

Downloading and installing 7 Days to Die takes time, but once you boot up, it’ll be easy to customize the game. You can set up the game to have the easiest setting or configure it to have zombies that are smarter and harder to kill. You can even customize the game to have the 24-hour cycle to span 30 minutes of real-time.

There is a short tutorial that you need to go through before you can start the game. This tutorial will walk you through the basics of the game. It will also give you directions to the nearest Traitor Joe’s general store where you can buy important supplies and weapons. Upon completion of the tutorial, you are basically on your own in the land of the undead.

7 Days to Die uses the fairly universal WASD keyboard controls. Don’t worry if you don’t like the WASD controls, as the game allows you to alter them. However, you’ll appreciate the ease of use as it allows you to jump between the two maps without a rough start. It also makes it easy to attack zombies with melee and ranged weapons.

However, while the controls are smooth, that cannot be said to the graphics. For a game released in 2013, the game has got a very outdated look. Sure, the developers improved them, but as consequences, the minimum requirement also increased. The frames per second can drop dramatically. And when you’re surrounded by zombies, that can mean life and death.

Lots of offerings, lots to love

Despite its flaws in graphics, there are lots of things that you can appreciate with 7 Days to Die. The various genres mixed in the game means you’ll have different gameplay that you can try. More the customizable setting allows you to choose the level of difficulty in which you want to play. All in all, this is an exciting game when you want to commit to hours on end, building, and exploring while slaying zombies.
